The University of Minnesota Soccer team is gearing up for the 2024 Big Ten Soccer Tournament as the No. 7 seed. They will be facing off against the No. 10 seeded Penn State Nittany Lions this Thursday at home. The last time the two teams met earlier this month, Penn State came out on top with a close win.
The Golden Gophers have had a strong season, going undefeated at home under the leadership of Head Coach Erin Chastain. They recently defeated No. 11 Iowa, earning them recognition in national polls and a rise in their RPI ranking. Defensive midfielder Sophia Boman has been named Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week after scoring the game-winning goal against Iowa.
In addition to their success on the field, the University of Minnesota soccer team will also be hosting the opening and quarterfinal rounds of the Big Ten Women’s Soccer Tournament. Teams that advance from the quarterfinals will move on to the semifinals and championship match in St. Louis.
The team has seen standout performances from players like Khyah Harper, who leads the country in total points, and Sophia Boman, who has been a consistent presence on the field. With their determination and skill, the Golden Gophers are looking to make a strong showing in the tournament and continue their successful season.
