Teachers Union Calls for Retraction of Senator Wesenberg’s Accusation of Teacher as ‘Predator’

Education Minnesota, the state’s teachers union, has demanded that Sen. Nathan Wesenberg, R-Little Falls, take down a recent Facebook post in which he accused a teacher in his district of wanting to teach boys how to perform sexual acts. The union sent a letter to Wesenberg expressing their outrage over his post, which they deemed to be libelous.

Wesenberg’s Facebook post, which has since been deleted, included graphic language and false allegations against Milaca science teacher John Shipman. This incident resurfaced following a previous encounter in which Wesenberg threw Shipman and other teachers out of his office after accusing them of promoting homosexuality and anti-white sentiments.

The teachers had initially requested a meeting with Wesenberg to discuss special education funding, but he diverted the conversation to sex education and inappropriate content in schools. Wesenberg has a history of making controversial statements, including calling the COVID-19 vaccine a “death shot” and advocating against drag shows.

Education Minnesota has condemned Wesenberg’s behavior, calling for the removal or retraction of his post. They emphasized the need to end the intimidation of teachers and hold elected officials accountable for spreading misinformation. Shipman has chosen not to comment on the matter, following the advice of his attorney.

The incident has drawn criticism from various sources, with commenters defending Shipman and questioning Wesenberg’s actions. By making unfounded accusations against Shipman, Wesenberg has opened himself up to potential legal action for defamation.

In response to the controversy, Education Minnesota President Denise Specht has called for better behavior from elected officials and a halt to the dissemination of harmful misinformation. The union remains firm in its demand for Wesenberg to rectify his false claims and show respect for educators in the state.
