A police officer and a suspected shooter were injured during a shooting incident at a high-rise building housing a Four Seasons hotel and residences in Midtown Atlanta. The officer suffered non-life-threatening injuries, while the suspect’s injuries were unspecified. The shooter, identified as 70-year-old Jay Stevens Berger, fired at least once from the balcony of a residence on the 33rd floor, using multiple firearms. After a dispute, police attempted to negotiate with the suspect, who refused to cooperate. Eventually, the suspect was taken into custody after the police breached the door of the unit. The injured parties were hospitalized, and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation will investigate the police response. The shelter-in-place order for the area was lifted, and the situation was contained to the residential section of the building, not the hotel managed by Four Seasons. Fortunately, no other injuries were reported. Authorities commended the bravery of the officers involved in resolving the incident without any loss of life. The safety and security of guests and employees was emphasized as a top priority by the hotel management.
