Oversight group requests documents from Walz’s Minnesota in response to DOJ criticism of Virginia voter-roll maintenance

Conservative good-government group, the Heritage Foundation’s Oversight Project, has filed a lawsuit to compel document production from Minnesota following a situation similar to Virginia’s where ineligible voters were mistakenly removed from the rolls. The lawsuit seeks records related to voter roll maintenance in Minnesota after the removal of 1,000 voters in September. The Virginia case involved the removal of over 1,500 individuals who self-identified as noncitizens, prompting the Justice Department and a federal judge to intervene.

Oversight Project chief counsel Kyle Brosnan highlighted the need for transparency in voter roll maintenance and compared the situation in Minnesota to that of Virginia. The group believes the automatic voter registration provision at the state DMV likely led to ineligible voters being added to the rolls in Minnesota as well. The lawsuit aims to uncover the communications behind the Minnesota case for public interest.

The Minnesota Department of Public Safety and Department of State had inactivated 1,000 voters during a manual review of 104,000 Minnesotans. The Oversight Project’s lawsuit aims to shed light on the voter roll maintenance efforts in Minnesota amidst concerns over ineligible voters being added to the rolls. The comparison to the Virginia case underscores the importance of proper voter roll maintenance and the need for transparency in election integrity.
