The Minnesota Lottery has reached a significant milestone by returning $4 billion to the state since 1990 to support various programs. In fiscal year 2024, a record payout of $196.5 million was returned to lottery beneficiaries for environmental conservation, public education, and gambling addiction services. The funds were distributed as follows: $101.7 million to the General Fund for education, public safety, and health services; $93.3 million for programs protecting Minnesota’s environment; $20.5 million to the Game and Fish Fund; $22.1 million to the Natural Resources Fund; and $1.5 million for problem gambling prevention and treatment programs. Additionally, $50.7 million was allocated to the Environment and Natural Resources Trust Fund.
The Natural Resources fund will be on the ballot for renewal next week, with voters deciding whether to continue allocating funds from Lottery Sales to support conservation efforts in Minnesota. A “no” vote or leaving the question blank will result in the expiration of conservation funding. The campaign Minnesotans For Our Great Outdoors is advocating for the renewal of these funds to support environmental protection and conservation in the state.
