African Diaspora Coalition Fundraises for DFL Candidates for Minnesota House of Representatives in 2024

The African Diaspora Coalition recently held a fundraiser in support of African diaspora candidates running for the Minnesota House of Representatives. The event, cohosted by Jude Nnadi and Lauren Feiersinger, aimed to provide financial assistance to candidates in the final days leading up to the November election. The fundraiser was attended by influential local DFL leaders, including Brooklyn Park Mayor Hollies Winston.

Key members of the United Black Legislative Caucus of Minnesota, such as Esther Agbaje and Cedric Frazier, were among those on the ballot for the upcoming election. Newcomers Anquan Mahamoud and Huldah Hiltsley were also expected to join the caucus. The event emphasized the importance of supporting African immigrant candidates and maintaining Democratic control of the Minnesota House.

Nnadi and Feiersinger emphasized the need for continuous organizing and financial support beyond the election. Feiersinger noted that post-election efforts at the Capitol require funding, highlighting the importance of community contributions. Mayor Winston emphasized the significance of engaging with the political system in the United States and supporting candidates who align with the community’s values.

Donations for the fundraiser ranged from $500 to $10,000, and contributions were collected online through the ActBlue website. The event showcased the unity and support within the African diaspora community for candidates who can advance their agenda and represent their interests in the legislature.
