Body of hiker discovered in Big Bend National Park in Texas

A 24-year-old hiker was found dead along the rugged Marufo Vega Trail in Big Bend National Park in Texas. Rangers launched a search after noticing the hiker’s vehicle had been parked at a trailhead for several days. The trail is described as a 14-mile desert route with no shade or water, making it dangerous during warmer times of year. The body was removed by helicopter and the National Park Service did not release the hiker’s name. Deputy Superintendent Rick Gupman expressed condolences to the hiker’s family and friends. Despite being late October, temperatures in the desert parts of the park have been reaching nearly 100 degrees each afternoon. The park service warned of the extreme heat and lack of shade in the area. The incident serves as a somber reminder of the dangers hikers face in remote and harsh environments like Big Bend National Park.
