Minnesota State University Volleyball set to face off against #10 Southwest Minnesota State and Winona State


The Minnesota State Mavericks volleyball team is gearing up for two important matches this week. They will first host No. 10 Southwest Minnesota State on Wednesday, October 30, followed by a rematch against Winona State on Saturday, November 2. The Mavericks are coming off a 1-1 week, with a win against Augustana and a loss to Concordia-St. Paul. They currently hold the eighth spot in the NSIC standings, with a 6-6 conference record.

The Mavericks excel in defense, ranking fourth in blocks and digs per set in the NSIC. Senior middle blocker Kiya Durant leads the team with 72 total blocks and a hitting percentage of .329. Setter Brooke Bolwerk surpassed 2,000 career assists and leads the team with 499 assists this season. Senior outside hitter Toryn Richards leads the team with 203 kills and 201 digs.

Southwest Minnesota State, the Mavericks’ next opponent, has had a strong season so far, with a 9-3 conference record. The Mustangs are led by Saari Kuehl, Leah Jones, and Emma VanHeel, who each have over 200 kills this season. Setter Sydney Thein leads the conference in assists with 910.

Winona State, the Mavericks’ other upcoming opponent, ranks second in the conference in kills and third in opponent service aces. Sidney Paulson leads the team with 270 kills, while Kylie Welch leads the conference in digs with 437.

The Mavericks will look to continue their success and improve their record against both opponents as the regular season winds down. It promises to be an exciting week for Minnesota State volleyball fans.
