Richard Allen is currently on trial for the double murder of two teenage girls, Abigail “Abby” Williams and Liberty “Libby” German, in Delphi, Indiana, in February 2017. According to prosecutors, Allen coerced the girls at gunpoint, forced them down a hill, and then slit their throats before leaving their bodies in a gruesome state. The prosecution presented evidence linking Allen to the crime scene, including an unspent bullet and confessions made to police and his wife.
The defense, however, claims that the investigation was flawed from the beginning and asserts Allen’s innocence. They challenge the state’s timeline of events and suggest that the girls may have been abducted and returned to the scene. The defense also points to evidence that suggests the involvement of individuals linked to a Norse pagan religion.
The trial, held in the community where the girls lived, has brought renewed attention to the case, which had remained unsolved for over five years. The girls’ family members testified about the events leading up to their disappearance and the subsequent discovery of their bodies. If found guilty, Allen faces up to 130 years in prison.
The trial has garnered interest due to the horrific nature of the crime and the evidence presented against Allen. Key pieces of evidence include video footage retrieved from Libby’s cellphone and Allen’s alleged confessions to multiple individuals. The defense aims to challenge the prosecution’s case and introduce alternate theories for the killings during the trial.
