China is increasing efforts with the U.S. to crack down on smuggling

China’s National Immigration Administration announced that they are cracking down on smuggling and other serious crimes in collaboration with the United States and other countries. Smugglers and criminal groups have been deceiving individuals into participating in illegal activities, posing serious threats to personal safety and causing economic losses. The crackdown is based on mutual respect and consultation.

The United States has been deporting Chinese nationals who attempt to enter the country illegally back to China with charter flights. Due to the difficulty of obtaining U.S. visas and the economic impact of China’s Covid-19 lockdowns, there has been a significant increase in Chinese migrants presenting at the U.S.-Mexico border. Nearly 56,000 Chinese migrants have been encountered at the Southwest border with Mexico and the northern border with Canada in the 2024 fiscal year through May, surpassing the total number of crossings in the previous fiscal year.

The collaboration between China and the United States on cracking down on smuggling and illegal activities highlights the ongoing efforts to enhance border security and combat transnational crimes. This joint effort aims to ensure the safety of individuals, prevent economic losses, and deter criminal activities that threaten national security.
