One person is dead and 23 others are injured after a New Jersey Transit train collided with a tree early Monday morning. The River LINE train was traveling southbound when it struck the tree just north of the Roebling Station. A total of 42 passengers were on board at the time, with 23 sustaining minor and non-life-threatening injuries. The remaining 19 passengers were transported by bus. New Jersey Transit Police are investigating the incident, while service on the River LINE has been suspended between Florence and Trenton, with substitute bus service provided. Governor Phil Murphy expressed condolences for the tragedy and offered prayers to those affected. A passenger on the train described the collision as hitting a “gigantic tree,” causing chaos and injuries among passengers. The passenger also recounted seeing at least one individual being taken away on a stretcher. The incident has left many shaken and in disbelief, with one person losing their life in the accident.
