Kenzie Lewellen went into labor at her home in Florida during Hurricane Milton, with her boyfriend Dewey Bennett by her side. Concerned about reaching the hospital amidst flooding, the couple decided to risk the journey to Sarasota Memorial Hospital in Venice. Despite facing challenges, Lewellen ultimately gave birth to a healthy baby boy named Dewey Lester Bennett IV.
The couple faced difficulties during the labor, as the baby was in the wrong position and Lewellen experienced problems with the epidural. However, with the support of the medical team at the hospital, they were able to successfully deliver the baby via cesarean section. In total, seven babies were born at the hospital during the storm.
The birth of little Dewey brought immense joy to his parents, with Lewellen describing the feeling as indescribable and Bennett unable to stop smiling. The experience held special significance for Bennett, as his own father had passed away during Hurricane Irma in 2017.
Looking back, Lewellen jokes about giving Dewey a hard time for being stubborn and suggests that some have joked about naming him Milton. Ultimately, the couple considers Dewey a miracle baby, a symbol of hope and resilience born during a challenging time. Holding him in her arms, Lewellen reflects on the miraculous nature of his birth as sunshine streams through the hospital window.
