Flooding at sanctuary in northern Thailand claims the lives of two elephants

Recently, a sanctuary in a low-lying area found itself battling against the forces of nature as floodwaters rose to nearly five meters high. The severe flooding caused by heavy rainfall left the sanctuary inundated, and many animals and staff members were left stranded.

The sanctuary, which is home to a variety of animals, struggled to cope with the sudden deluge of water. Many of the enclosures were underwater, forcing the animals to seek higher ground to escape the rising waters. Staff members worked tirelessly to ensure the safety and well-being of the animals, rescuing those that were in immediate danger and providing care for those that were unable to escape.

The devastating floods not only put the animals at risk but also posed a threat to the sanctuary’s infrastructure. Buildings and facilities were damaged by the floodwaters, creating a challenging situation for the staff to navigate. Despite the obstacles, the staff remained committed to their mission of caring for the animals and ensuring their safety during the crisis.

In the face of such adversity, the sanctuary received an outpouring of support from the local community. Volunteers and donors came together to help rebuild and repair the damaged facilities, providing much-needed assistance to the sanctuary during this difficult time.

As the waters recede and the cleanup begins, the sanctuary is determined to persevere and continue its important work of caring for the animals in its care. The flood may have caused significant damage, but it has also shown the resilience and dedication of the staff and supporters who are committed to ensuring the well-being of the animals.
