Health officials warn that attendees of Chicago concert may have been exposed to rabid bats

The Chicago Department of Public Health issued a warning regarding possible rabies exposure at an outdoor concert at the Salt Shed music venue. The exposure occurred during a concert on Sept. 12 and attendees who may have been bitten or scratched by a bat were advised to seek medical attention for rabies post-exposure prophylaxis. Health officials stressed that bat bites may be hard to detect and attendees who did not have direct contact with a bat do not need to take any further action. Rabies is a fatal disease that affects the nervous system and is transmitted through the bite of an infected animal. Prompt medical treatment is crucial after exposure to potentially rabid animals like bats. The Salt Shed did not respond to requests for comment. Attendees of the concert were urged to seek healthcare if they suspect they may have been exposed to rabies.
