Donald Trump promises to pursue legal action against Google if re-elected as president

Former President Donald Trump made a startling statement on Friday by threatening to direct the Justice Department to pursue criminal charges against Google if he were to be elected president again. Trump accused Google of unfairly displaying negative news articles about him while promoting positive stories about his 2024 election opponent, Kamala Harris.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump claimed that Google’s actions constituted illegal activity and interference in elections. He vowed to request prosecution of the tech giant if the Justice Department did not take action.

Google has denied manipulating search results to benefit any particular party and stated that both campaign websites consistently appear at the top of search results for relevant queries.

Conservatives have long criticized Google for favoring Democrats in search results. Trump’s campaign has also complained about Harris using Google’s sponsored feature to promote positive news coverage with rewritten headlines.

This threat against Google is just the latest instance of Trump vowing to prosecute supposed opponents. Earlier this month, he threatened to pursue criminal charges against individuals involved in alleged election fraud if he wins the presidential election in November. Additionally, Trump has called for the criminal prosecution of former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi for her alleged role in the January 6 Capitol attack.

These aggressive tactics from Trump highlight his willingness to use the power of the presidency to go after his perceived enemies. The outcome of the upcoming election will determine whether these threats result in legal action against Google and other individuals.
