Stargazers around the world are eagerly waiting for the astrological event of the year as comet A3, also known as Tsuchinshan-ATLAS, makes its way through the inner Solar System. Two viewing windows have been announced, allowing enthusiasts a chance to catch a glimpse of the comet with their naked eyes.
The first viewing window will be from September 27 to October 2, before sunrise in the northern hemisphere. The second window will be from October 13 to 26, offering the best view for observers in the mid-latitudes of the northern hemisphere in the evening.
For the best viewing experience, stargazers are advised to find a dark location away from city lights with a clear view. Using binoculars can enhance the viewing experience as well.
Comet A3 was discovered in January 2023 by the Tsuchinshan Observatory in China and the ATLAS program in South Africa. Comets are mainly made of ice, dust, and rocks, and their brightness increases as they come closer to the Sun.
While the comet has already been dubbed the “comet of the century” by some enthusiasts, experts remain cautious about its unpredictability. The risk of disintegration when the comet is closer to the Sun adds an element of uncertainty to its brightness.
Despite the uncertainty, stargazing enthusiasts are excited about the rare opportunity to witness the beauty of comet A3 as it passes through the inner Solar System.
