Donald Trump’s golfing partner, Steve Witkoff, described the moment he heard gunshots and saw Secret Service agents dive on top of the former president during an apparent assassination attempt at his Florida golf course. The suspect, Ryan Routh, was charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and possession of a firearm with an obliterated serial number. Trump was quickly ushered off the course by the Secret Service within 20 seconds of the shooting. Witkoff praised the Secret Service’s quick response and Trump’s concern for those present.
This incident comes just over two months after a previous assassination attempt on Trump. Witkoff stated that despite potential mistakes, Trump respects and has faith in the Secret Service. He mentioned that Trump may continue golfing despite the recent events as it is a calming activity for him. Additionally, Trump accused President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris of using language that led to the assassination attempts against him, claiming their political beliefs are too far to the left and reminiscent of Marxist ideology.
Witkoff mentioned that Trump feels strongly about his political beliefs, including concerns about large government, high taxes, green New Deal, and DEI initiatives. Despite the recent incidents, Trump does not intend to tone down his rhetoric. Overall, Trump’s close associate paints a picture of a man resolute in his beliefs, unwavering in the face of danger, and continuing to pursue his interests despite the potential risks.
