At least four killed and dozens injured in Russian attack on Ukraine’s Kharkiv | Updates on Russia-Ukraine war

An attack by Russian forces in the eastern Ukrainian city of Kharkiv has resulted in the deaths of at least four people and the injury of 28 others, according to Ukrainian officials. Among the victims was a child who was killed on a playground, while three other individuals lost their lives in a 12-storey apartment block that caught fire during the attack. Kharkiv, Ukraine’s second-largest city, has been a frequent target of Russian aggression, with highly destructive guided bombs being used in the region.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy condemned the attack, stating that strong decisions are needed from allies to stop the terror. He called for long-range capabilities and the implementation of air defense agreements for Ukraine in order to save lives. Russian raids in the neighboring region of Sumy have also resulted in casualties, with two people dead and eight wounded.

Despite claims by the Kremlin that civilian infrastructure is not being targeted, Russia’s forces have captured villages in eastern Ukraine, including the Donetsk, Luhansk, and Kharkiv regions. The situation remains tense, with ongoing fighting near the logistics hub of Pokrovsk. Ukrainian troops are pressing forward in Russia’s Kursk region, claiming control of 100 border settlements.

In response to the escalating conflict, European Union defense ministers have agreed to train Ukrainian forces as close to the country as possible, with a goal of training 75,000 troops by the end of the year. Some EU countries support training soldiers in Ukraine, but others fear it could lead to further conflict escalation. The situation in Ukraine remains critical, with urgent calls for international support to protect civilian lives and push back against Russian aggression.
