The North Little Rock Police Department has recently established a real-time crime center that is collaborating with the Little Rock Police Department to combat criminal activity on both sides of the Arkansas River. The two centers have been actively cooperating for several months, sharing public safety cameras owned by their respective cities.
Residents and businesses in North Little Rock are encouraged to register or integrate their private security cameras with the NLRPD’s real-time crime center. Registering a camera adds it to a map that police can access in case of a crime, while integrating a camera provides police with live video feed access. Integration of cameras requires the purchase of a device from Fūsus, with prices ranging from $350 to $7,300.
As of August, North Little Rock has 151 registered cameras and 582 integrated cameras, while Little Rock has 1,949 registered cameras and 1,746 integrated cameras. The ultimate goal for Little Rock is to have 30,000 cameras integrated into the real-time crime center.
Police do not have access to facial recognition technology and do not require a warrant to access integrated cameras, as long as the owner has granted permission. Footage obtained from private cameras is not subject to public records requests.
The NLRPD’s real-time crime center is located at the North Little Rock Justice Center, while the LRPD’s center is at the LRPD Headquarters. The collaboration between the two departments aims to enhance public safety and reduce criminal activity in the region.
