Hutchinson will be joining the faculty at UA Law School next year

Former Arkansas Governor Asa Hutchinson is set to join the faculty at the University of Arkansas Law School in Fayetteville as an executive in residence for the spring 2025 semester. Hutchinson, a graduate of the school in 1975, will be teaching a course on leadership in state and federal government, as well as participating in continuing legal education and moot court programs.

Hutchinson’s extensive public service career includes roles as a U.S. attorney, congressman, governor, director of the federal Drug Enforcement Administration, and in a high-level role in the Department of Homeland Security. Although he ran for the Republican nomination for president this year, he dropped out in January after receiving less than 1% of the vote in the Iowa caucuses.

There have been reports that Hutchinson is interested in replacing Donald Bobbitt, who announced his retirement as president of the University of Arkansas system by January 15. This week, Hutchinson is working with Scripps News at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago, where he shared a photo of himself with the Arkansas delegation, showing his bipartisan support.

Hutchinson’s transition to academia will provide students with a unique opportunity to learn from his vast experience in public service and gain valuable insights into leadership in government. His addition to the faculty at the University of Arkansas Law School is sure to enrich the educational experience for students and faculty alike.
