Kianga, a 17-year-old chimpanzee at the Little Rock Zoo, welcomed her first baby into the world last night. The zoo has not yet announced the name of the newborn chimp, but shared two adorable pictures of Kianga and her baby. The chimp habitat will be closed to the public for a few days to allow the new mother and baby to adjust and bond in peace.
Kianga came to the Little Rock Zoo from the Albuquerque BioPark Zoo in 2020. The zoo has been experiencing a wave of cuteness recently, with the addition of two ringtails named Austin and Amethyst from the Oklahoma City Zoo. In February, a baby orangutan named Kota was born, along with two baby blue-eyed black lemurs named after Daniel Radcliffe and Taylor Swift.
Additionally, visitors will soon have to say goodbye to Sophie, an elderly Asian elephant who recently entered hospice care. The zoo has been providing updates on Sophie and the other elderly elephants’ daily routine. The Little Rock Zoo sends out a weekly email newsletter with the latest news, promotions, and discounts.
With the arrival of the newest baby chimpanzee and other adorable animal additions, the Little Rock Zoo continues to provide a delightful experience for visitors of all ages.
