A former Memphis police officer, Emmitt Martin, is expected to change his not guilty plea in connection to civil rights violations that led to the beating death of Tyre Nichols. Another former officer, Desmond Mills Jr., previously pleaded guilty to excessive force and obstruction of justice charges and agreed to cooperate with prosecutors. Nichols died in the hospital several days after a traffic stop where multiple officers were seen on camera kicking, punching, and hitting him with a baton. Other officers involved in the incident have pleaded not guilty to federal and state charges. A change of plea hearing for Martin is scheduled for Friday in front of U.S. District Judge Mark Norris. The case is still ongoing, and updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
