An unknown number of people have been killed and injured in a knife attack at a festival in the western German city of Solingen. The attack occurred at Fronhof Square in the city center, leading to authorities asking people to leave the downtown area. Festival organizer Philipp Müller reported that emergency workers were fighting for the lives of nine people. The perpetrator was still at large, and the festival marking the city’s 650th anniversary was supposed to run through Sunday. Solingen, with a population of about 160,000, is located near Cologne and Düsseldorf. The number of casualties was not immediately clear, with reports suggesting that several people had been killed in the random stabbing attack.
