Jeremy Hutchinson’s appeal denied – Arkansas Times

Former Arkansas state Sen. Jeremy Hutchinson, who is currently serving a 46-month prison sentence in Arkansas for bribery charges, has lost his latest legal battle in Missouri. In a ruling by the Eighth U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, Hutchinson’s 50-month prison sentence in Missouri was upheld. The charges against Hutchinson in Missouri involve a bribery scandal with former top officials of Preferred Family Healthcare.

Hutchinson, who is the nephew of former Gov. Asa Hutchinson and the son of former U.S. Sen. Tim Hutchinson, pleaded guilty to filing a false tax return and conspiracy to commit federal program bribery in Arkansas, in addition to his guilty plea to conspiracy to commit federal program bribery in Missouri. He is currently incarcerated in a federal prison in Memphis, with the possibility of appealing to the full appeals court.

The scandal involving Preferred Family Healthcare has ensnared numerous individuals, including former Arkansas state Rep. Eddie Wayne Cooper, who pleaded guilty to embezzlement charges in February 2018. Cooper admitted to conspiring with executives of the Springfield-based nonprofit to use company funds for unlawful political contributions and lobbying. Preferred Family Healthcare had operated multiple sites across Arkansas providing behavioral health care and other services, and federal prosecutors alleged that leaders at the company bribed legislators and state officials to secure Medicaid funding.

Another defendant in the scandal is set to be sentenced next week, highlighting the widespread corruption and illegal activities that took place within the nonprofit organization.
