Kai Liam Nix, a 20-year-old U.S. Army soldier, was indicted on federal charges for lying about his connection to a group dedicated to overthrowing the government. Prosecutors allege that Nix falsely stated on his security clearance application that he had no ties to such a group, despite being a member. In addition to making false statements, Nix is also accused of unlawful firearms trafficking and dealing firearms without a license. Nix, who went by the name Kia Brazelton, has no deployments and left the Army as a private this month. He was stationed at Fort Liberty in Fayetteville, North Carolina. If convicted, Nix faces a maximum of 30 years in prison. Nix had his first court appearance on Monday, but his attorney has not yet responded to requests for comment.
