Cameron increases funding for anti-marijuana and anti-abortion group

Arkansas chicken mogul Ronnie Cameron has donated over $100,000 to a group opposing constitutional amendments that would expand the state medical marijuana program and restore the right to abortion. Cameron’s donation brings his total contributions to the group to over $215,000. The Arkansas Family Council, led by Jerry Cox, is campaigning against these amendments, and Cameron’s donation appeared on both the marijuana and abortion finance reports. The marijuana and abortion measures could still be in front of voters this fall.

Another group, Arkansans for Students and Educators, funded by billionaires Jim Walton and Jeff Yass among others, donated $100,000 to Stronger Arkansas, a committee associated with Gov. Sarah Sanders. This group was formed to oppose the medical marijuana, abortion, and education amendments. Stronger Arkansas reported a balance of $60,033 at the end of July.

Several other groups involved in campaigning for or against amendments in Arkansas reported their fundraising activities. Notably, the Arkansas for Patient Access, the sponsor of the medical marijuana amendment, reported raising over $290,000 last month, with most donations coming from companies in the Arkansas medical marijuana industry.

In conclusion, various groups in Arkansas are actively campaigning and fundraising to support or oppose constitutional amendments related to medical marijuana, abortion, and education, among other issues. The involvement of notable donors and the significant amounts raised indicate the importance of these amendments to the people of Arkansas.
