A 32-year-old hunter in Alaska was mauled by a brown bear while hunting on the Kenai Peninsula. During the attack, the hunter and his companion opened fire, resulting in the hunter being shot in the leg. It is unclear who fired the shot that struck him. The bear was killed in the incident. The mauling occurred in a remote area off the Resurrection Pass trail and the circumstances leading up to it are unknown. The injured hunter was flown by helicopter to an Anchorage hospital for treatment of serious injuries. Authorities are investigating the incident further.
