Austrian Chancellor Nehammer announced the cancellation of three Taylor Swift concerts in Vienna this week after two suspects were detained for plotting an attack on a public event at the Ernst Happel Stadium where Swift was scheduled to perform. The cancellation was deemed necessary for the safety of attendees. Nehammer praised the police and intelligence services for thwarting the potential tragedy and ensuring public safety.
The suspects, one of whom pledged allegiance to ISIS, had focused on the Taylor Swift concerts in Vienna. Police were still searching for at least three other suspects. The events were initially planned to go ahead with increased security measures, but were eventually cancelled.
Swift, known for her massive global following, had not commented on the cancellations yet. Concert organisers Barracuda Music stated that all tickets would be refunded. Swifties, as her fans are known, have expressed panic and concern over the cancellations.
After Vienna, Swift was expected to perform in London for six concerts at Wembley Stadium, which are still scheduled to take place. The cancellation in Vienna has raised security concerns for future events on the singer’s Eras Tour.
