Interview with Chris Sheppard from Everyone Asked About You: Why You Should Never Say Goodbye

Beloved ’90s Little Rock band, Everyone Asked About You (EAAY), has released their first EP in 25 years titled “Never Leave.” The EP, which consists of four tracks, showcases the band’s signature emo sound with heartfelt lyrics and urgent instrumentation. Produced by Jason Weinheimer and mixed by Alex Farrar, the EP features a mix of hard-hitting tracks and tender, diaristic songs like “A Vigil.” The standout track pays tribute to Nex Benedict, a nonbinary high school student who died by suicide after being bullied for their gender identity.

“Never Leave” has been described as a chilling, compelling embodiment of queer solidarity and allyship. The band’s lead singer, Chris Sheppard, shares that the writing and recording process for the EP was a cathartic experience for him. The band gathered in Arkansas during the eclipse to write and record the songs over the course of three days. Despite living in different states and time zones, the band made it a priority to meet deadlines and create music that they were proud of.

Reflecting on the experience, Sheppard notes that while the band’s dynamic may have felt reminiscent of their teenage years, the process of writing and recording now required a more concerted effort to coordinate schedules and meet deadlines. The band’s reunion and return to the studio after 25 years has been a fulfilling experience, leading to the creation of a new, emotionally resonant EP that fans have eagerly awaited. “Never Leave” is now available digitally and for pre-order as a 7-inch via Numero Group.
