The Little Rock Board of Directors made several important decisions at its recent meeting. They voted to extend on-premise Sunday alcohol sales in Little Rock, allowing for sales to start at 10 a.m. and run through midnight. This change was sponsored by At-Large Director Antwan Phillips and received seven “yes” votes. The board also voted to increase taxi fares to accommodate rising costs. Braxton Anderson, general manager of zTrip, confirmed that the fare increase would benefit cab drivers. Additionally, the board authorized grant funding for the Little Rock School District’s Community Schools Initiative, providing support and services for students and families in underserved areas.
In other news, City Clerk Susan Langley had her last meeting before retiring, with Deputy City Clerk Allison Segars set to take over as interim city clerk. Ward 2 Director Ken Richardson was absent from the meeting due to recovering from “life-threatening” surgeries, with no clear timeline for his return.
The Little Rock City Board is responsible for local governance and meets weekly to vote on important issues affecting the city. These decisions will impact residents and visitors in a variety of ways, from brunch-goers enjoying mimosas earlier on Sundays to cab drivers benefiting from a fare increase. The Community Schools Initiative will also receive much-needed funding to continue providing support to students and their families in underserved areas.
