Alexa Henning, the communications director for Gov. Sarah Sanders, is leaving her position to take a job at a political affairs firm in Washington, D.C., as reported by the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette. Henning has been in this role since Sanders took office in January 2023 and will be leaving on Aug. 16.
During her time in Arkansas, Henning was known for her confrontational and unresponsive communication style. She previously worked for President Trump and Senator Ron Johnson, displaying a similar combative approach.
Henning’s antagonistic behavior towards journalists and reluctance to answer questions has been noted. She often engaged in social media disputes and conflict with the press, following the example set by Sanders during her time as White House press secretary.
Despite being praised for her messaging skills, Henning’s unwillingness to engage with the media has been a point of contention. Requests for comment from Henning on various matters were often met with silence or legal responses.
A memo from Sanders’ Deputy Chief of Staff in the early days of the administration indicated that Henning should be consulted for media inquiries or Freedom of Information requests. However, Henning did not respond to requests for comment on her departure from the governor’s office.
The departure of Alexa Henning marks the end of a tumultuous period of communication and conflict during Gov. Sarah Sanders’ time in office.
