Former head coach Bobby Petrino is returning to Arkansas as the offensive coordinator under head coach Sam Pittman for the 2024 season. Petrino, who previously served as head coach for the Razorbacks, worked his way back into Power Four football last season as the offensive coordinator for Texas A&M. With Petrino’s offensive expertise, Arkansas is hoping to improve upon their 105th ranking in total offense from last season.
The Razorbacks finished the 2023 season with a 4-8 overall record, ranking 1-7 in the SEC. They will be returning nine starters, including key players such as quarterback Taylen Green, wide receiver Andrew Armstrong, and defensive end Landon Jackson. Defensive end Jackson was a standout player last season, registering 13.5 tackles for loss and 6.5 sacks.
Arkansas’s defense was a strong suit last season, ranking 46th in the nation in total defensive yards allowed. The team will be looking to build upon this defensive success while also revitalizing their offense under Petrino’s guidance.
The Razorbacks have a challenging schedule ahead, including matchups against Oklahoma State, Auburn, Texas A&M, LSU, and Texas. They will kick off their season on August 29 against Arkansas-Pine Bluff.
With the addition of Petrino and a strong returning roster, Arkansas is optimistic about their prospects for the upcoming season. Fans can expect an exciting and competitive year of Razorbacks football.
