Highly rated high school athlete Luke Ryerse from East Ridge High School in Woodbury, Minnesota recently committed to the University of Minnesota for both football and baseball. Ryerse, who is a punter in football and a right-handed pitcher/third baseman in baseball, made the decision to flip his commitment from Alabama to his home state university.
Ryerse, ranked as a five-star prospect by Chris Sailer Kicking, is seen as a player who can make an immediate impact at the FBS level. His impressive punting and kicking abilities have garnered praise from experts, with Sailer describing him as a “phenomenal” talent with a “big-time leg.” Ryerse’s skills on the diamond are equally impressive, as he was named Twin Cities Pioneer Press East Metro Player of the Year in 2023 and is a member of the U.S. Developmental team.
Notably, Ryerse’s older brother Grant Ryerse also played for the Gophers as a kicker and punter from 2017 to 2020. Luke Ryerse credits the coaching staff at Minnesota, specifically Coach Fleck and Coach McDevitt, for providing him with the opportunity to pursue his athletic and academic goals at his home state university.
Ryerse’s commitment to Minnesota has generated excitement among fans and supporters of the Gophers, who look forward to seeing him showcase his talents on both the football field and the baseball diamond in the coming years.
