Minnesota has been a key focus for Trump, with his campaign hiring staff and opening offices in the state. Trump’s political director called Minnesota a battleground where the former president compared favorably to his opponent, President Joe Biden. While the state narrowly favored Hillary Clinton in 2016, Biden won decisively in 2020.
Trump’s appearance in St. Cloud comes after he survived an assassination attempt at a previous rally. He plans to increase outdoor events with enhanced Secret Service protection. At a bitcoin conference earlier in the day, Trump vowed to make the U.S. a “bitcoin superpower” by embracing cryptocurrency and establishing a bitcoin reserve using government-held currency.
The event marked Vance’s second appearance at a rally with Trump since joining the ticket. Trump’s campaign is also considering Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz as a potential running mate for Vice President Kamala Harris. Harris’s campaign criticized Trump and Vance as being out of touch with Minnesota values, expressing confidence in Democrats’ chances in the state.
Trump’s embrace of cryptocurrency, despite previous reservations, represents a shift in his stance on the digital currency. His campaign began accepting donations in cryptocurrency in May, and he has included support for bitcoin mining and transactions in the Republican National Committee platform.
