Travis Wiuff, a former professional mixed martial arts fighter, has officially retired from fighting after a long and successful career. His last bout was in the bare-knuckle boxing promotion Valor, where he suffered a broken hand and a concussion, leading him to realize he no longer wanted to compete in combat sports. Wiuff has now transitioned to a new chapter in his life, co-operating a gym in Kasson, Minnesota, with strongman athlete Albert Brand. The gym offers various fitness programs, including powerlifting, crossfit, student athlete training, jiu jitsu, and self-defense classes. Wiuff’s transition to coaching and running the gym has been fulfilling for him, but he also wanted to fulfill his competitive drive. With Brand’s introduction to the sport of strongman, Wiuff found a new passion and recently competed in the 2024 Minnesota’s Strongest Man and Woman and Strongman Midwest Regionals, winning first place in each of the four categories. Despite feeling like a rookie in the sport, Wiuff’s impressive performance earned him the title of the strongest (old) man in Minnesota. While he has qualified for the national strongman master’s competition, Wiuff is unsure if he will attend, as he believes he still has room for improvement before aiming for a national victory. Overall, Wiuff’s journey from professional fighter to gym co-operator to strongman competitor showcases his versatility and dedication to staying active and competitive in the fitness world.
