French entertainer Philippe Katerine, who performed as a blue Greek god during the Olympic opening ceremony, shared that he felt great despite the controversy surrounding his act. He spent hours in makeup getting coated in blue paint and glitter for his role as Dionysus. Katerine, known for pushing boundaries, mentioned that he enjoyed the experience even though it was painful, revealing details of his full-body waxing.
Although some critics criticized the performance as mocking the Last Supper, director Thomas Jolly clarified that it was inspired by a pagan feast related to the gods of Olympus. Katerine expressed pride in his performance, stating that it was a representation of his culture. He explained that his act was a tribute to the original Olympic Games in Greece, where nudity was common.
Katerine, who is a father of two, mentioned that he pitched the idea for his performance to Jolly and that nudity is tied to the origins of the Games. He performed a song called “Nu” for the first time, conveying a message of peace by stating that there would be no war if people were naked. Despite the backlash, Katerine embraced his performance and defended his right to express himself.
