The Mobile County District Attorney’s Office has found no criminal wrongdoing after reviewing a special counsel investigation initiated by the Mobile City Council. The investigation was approved after police chief Paul Prine was fired and raised concerns about the Gulf Coast Technology Center and its relationship with 321z Insights LLC. The investigation found possible issues with a $92,000 contract awarded to 321z, leading to the firing of Gulf Coast Technology Center commander Kevin Levy. However, the DA’s office found no criminal activity. Former police chief Paul Prine claimed there were still issues impacting crime-solving efforts, including tensions within the Gulf Coast Technology Center. Mobile County Sheriff Paul Burch also highlighted weaknesses in the center’s operations, including conflicts between units that hindered collaboration. Burch suggested that if he were in charge, he would address these issues by reassigning personnel. Prine believes that Levy was fired for telling the truth during the investigation. Ultimately, the DA’s office did not find any criminal activity, but concerns about internal conflicts within the Gulf Coast Technology Center remain.
