X users recently discovered that the platform has quietly updated its data settings to automatically opt in to training its new artificial intelligence (AI) model, Grok. Grok is Elon Musk’s generative AI model, designed to provide witty and helpful responses to user queries. Users have the option to share their posts, interactions, inputs, and results with Grok for training and fine-tuning purposes.
These setting changes are found in the data sharing, privacy, and sharing section of the platform’s settings. While users can opt-out by unchecking a box or putting their accounts on private, this can only be done on the desktop version and not the app. X Premium and Premium+ subscribers can utilize Grok to conduct searches and enhance their overall user experience.
Grok has been trained on public text data, but not yet on X data. Training the model on X data will help improve Grok’s understanding of human language, develop its sense of humor, and ensure it remains politically unbiased. Elon Musk has announced his plans to train Grok on supercomputers in Memphis to make it “the most powerful AI in the world.”
These changes come shortly after Musk revealed that Grok’s training had begun just 19 days after its installation. The introduction of Grok promises an enhanced user experience on the X platform, with users being entertained and engaged while receiving insightful responses to their queries.
