The 2024 Major League Baseball Draft kicked off on Sunday, and the Arkansas Razorbacks have been closely monitoring their draft-eligible players. Left-handed pitcher Hagen Smith made history as the highest-drafted pitcher in Arkansas baseball history when he was selected fifth overall by the Chicago White Sox. Smith signed for $8 million, surpassing his slot value of $7.76 million.
Other Razorbacks who were drafted include Tyson Lewis, Peyton Stovall, Mason Molina, Jared Sprague-Lott, Hudson White, Ben McLaughlin, Eli Lovich, Jake Faherty, and Brady Tygart. Lewis, drafted in the second round by the Cincinnati Reds, is a highly rated prospect known for his quick left-handed stroke and solid speed as a baserunner. Stovall, also drafted by the Reds, turned down the MLB out of high school and had a successful career as a Razorback.
Molina, Sprague-Lott, White, McLaughlin, Lovich, Faherty, and Tygart were also selected in later rounds by various teams. These players have represented the Razorbacks well in college baseball, and their draft selections mark the next step in their baseball careers.
Keep an eye out for updates as the 2024 MLB Draft continues, and see how more Arkansas baseball players fare as they make their way to the big leagues.
