Hundreds of protesters, led by Jewish Voice for Peace, gathered in the Cannon House Office Building in Washington, DC, to protest against Israel’s war in Gaza. Despite the swift response from Capitol Police who declared the area a closed zone and arrested hundreds of demonstrators, the protesters remained defiant, chanting “Let Gaza live” and calling for an end to the genocide in Palestine. The demonstration came ahead of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s speech to Congress, highlighting the continued US support for Israel despite the ongoing violence in Gaza. Activists emphasized the need for an arms embargo against Israel and expressed concerns about the US government’s complicity in the conflict. Progressive Jewish groups have been organizing protests across the country to raise awareness about the situation in Gaza and demand an end to the war. The protesters, including descendants of Holocaust survivors, remained committed to their cause even as they were arrested and taken away by Capitol Police. Despite facing arrest, the activists maintained their message calling for an end to the violence and for the US to stop sending weapons to Israel. Jewish Voice for Peace called for action from the Biden administration and Congress to stop the violence and save lives in Gaza.
