Minnesota Vikings to Pay Tribute to Former Oregon Duck Khyree Jackson in Unique Celebrations

Minnesota Vikings rookie and former Oregon Duck Khyree Jackson tragically passed away in a car accident on July 6th. In honor of the late rookie, the Vikings announced plans to commemorate him throughout the upcoming 2024 season. Jackson’s locker at the Vikings facility will remain unused, while players will wear helmet decals bearing his initials “KJ” and his number 31 will not be used. The team will also pay out the remainder of Jackson’s signing bonus and contribute to his funeral expenses. A joint funeral for Jackson and his high school teammate Isaiah Hazel, who also perished in the accident, will be held with several Vikings staff in attendance. The team will also hold a private memorial in Minnesota for players and staff to honor Jackson’s memory.

Coach Kevin O’Connell spoke highly of Jackson’s work ethic and potential impact on the team, highlighting his dedication and skill. Unfortunately, Jackson’s promising future was cut short due to the fatal accident. The details surrounding the incident suggest that alcohol may have been a contributing factor, with ongoing investigations still taking place.

The University of Oregon also held a vigil for Jackson, where teammates and coaches paid tribute to his infectious smile and positive attitude. Jackson’s untimely passing has left a void in the hearts of many, but his memory and legacy will live on through the various tributes and honors planned for the upcoming season.
