Dontrell Nance, a man who kidnapped the manager of a Michigan sporting goods store and held him at gunpoint while his accomplice stole 123 handguns, has been sentenced to 15 years in federal prison. The manager was handcuffed and blindfolded outside his home last November and forced to reveal how to disarm the alarm at the store near Benton Harbor. Nance, 25, received consecutive sentences for kidnapping and brandishing a firearm during a crime of violence after pleading guilty in April. His mother stated that he had a turbulent childhood and significant mental health challenges.
A second man involved in the crime, Darnell Bishop, also pleaded guilty and is awaiting sentencing. Bishop went into the store and removed the guns in coolers while Nance remained with the manager in a car. The stolen handguns, valued at over $100,000, were eventually recovered by federal agents, who believed they would have been sold on the street. The case highlights the seriousness of the crimes committed and the potential dangers posed by illegal firearms trafficking.
