Former Oregon Football player and Minnesota Vikings rookie, Khyree Jackson, tragically lost his life in a car crash along with high school teammates Isaiah Hazel and Anthony Lytton Jr. Last Friday, a candlelight vigil was held at Wise High School in Maryland to remember the deceased athletes. Unfortunately, the night took a turn for the worse when two people were shot in the parking lot after the memorial. One of the victims, an adult man, succumbed to his injuries, while an adult woman suffered non-life threatening injuries.
The trio had been part of Wise High School’s state championship team in 2016 and had recently passed away in the car crash. The incident was suspected to involve alcohol. The community was already mourning their loss when the shooting occurred, adding to the tragic events that have unfolded.
A vigil was also held at Autzen Stadium in Oregon, where Jackson had played football. Coach Dan Lanning and teammates paid tribute to Jackson, reflecting on the impact he had on their lives. Jackson’s family was in attendance for the emotional gathering.
The sudden and shocking string of events has deeply affected the community and the loved ones of the deceased athletes. Investigations are ongoing to determine the motive behind the shooting incident. The community is coming together to support each other during this difficult time.
