In a response to a drone attack by the Houthi group, the Israeli military conducted air strikes on the Red Sea port city of Hodeidah in Yemen. The strikes came after the Houthis claimed responsibility for an attack in Tel Aviv that killed one person and injured 10 others. The Houthi-affiliated Al Masirah TV reported that the Israeli attack targeted oil storage facilities and a power plant, resulting in casualties and fatalities. However, the Israeli military stated that they hit “military targets” in Yemen.
The Houthi spokesman condemned the Israeli aggression, stating that it aims to pressure Yemen to stop supporting Gaza. Hamas also condemned the assault, warning that the Zionist crimes will change the equation. Israeli Defence Minister Yaov Gallant hailed the attack as a warning to adversaries, emphasizing that Israel will respond to any threats to its security. The Houthis, aligned with Iran, have been targeting shipping lanes in the Red Sea to pressure Israel to end the war on Gaza.
The United States and United Kingdom have been conducting air strikes in Yemen in response to the Houthis’ attacks, which have not halted the violence. The escalation of tensions in the region could strain the Israeli military, which is already facing challenges on multiple fronts with Hamas in Gaza and Hezbollah in Lebanon. The deployment of the Air Force to Yemen adds pressure on Israeli forces, raising concerns about the potential for an all-out regional war.
