Members of Minnesota’s Congressional and Senate delegations, along with legislators from other states, have introduced a bipartisan bill to make the Bald Eagle the official National Bird of the United States. Led by Sen. Amy Klobuchar, the bill aims to designate the Bald Eagle, a symbol of freedom and strength, as the country’s official bird. Although the eagle has been a longstanding symbol of the nation, it has never been officially recognized as the National Bird.
The National Bird Initiative for the National Eagle Center, represented by Preston Cook, emphasizes the importance of honoring the Bald Eagle as the country’s official bird, highlighting its significance as a national symbol. Representatives from Minnesota and Wisconsin, including Brad Finstad and Ilhan Omar, have co-sponsored the corresponding bill in the House of Representatives.
The Bald Eagle is prominently featured on official currency, military uniforms, and government buildings, representing the country’s independence, strength, and freedom. The legislators and supporters behind the bill believe that it is time for the Bald Eagle to be officially recognized as the National Bird, aligning it with other national symbols such as the bison, rose, and oak. The National Eagle Center in Wabasha, Minnesota, also plays a crucial role in advocating for the Bald Eagle’s official designation.
