Biden to convene meeting with Walz and Democratic governors to address shared concerns

President Joe Biden has invited Democratic governors to a meeting on Wednesday as he aims to strengthen support among top party leaders after a recent debate performance. The meeting, likely to be virtual, will include Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, who is also the head of the Democratic Governors Association. Walz convened a call with fellow governors to discuss concerns about Biden’s candidacy, leading to the invitation from the president.

During the meeting, Walz and other governors expressed concerns about Biden’s debate performance and his ability to lead the country and win the election against Donald Trump in November. Some Democrats, including Texas Rep. Lloyd Doggett and former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, have questioned whether Biden should remain in the race following his shaky debate performance.

Despite calls for him to withdraw, there is no indication that Biden is seriously considering stepping aside, as his campaign remains confident in his long-term prospects. The meeting with Democratic governors and congressional leaders is seen as an effort by Biden to address these concerns and reassure party members of his capability to lead.

Not all governors are expected to participate in the meeting, with some, like Kansas Gov. Laura Kelly, who has disagreed with Biden in the past, yet still voicing support for him in the upcoming election. Overall, the meeting represents Biden’s attempt to rally support within the Democratic party and address doubts about his candidacy moving forward.
