National High School Hall of Fame Inducts Joe Mauer

Joe Mauer, a Minnesota sporting icon and former MLB player, has been inducted into the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS) National High School Hall of Fame. Mauer, known for his three-sport high school career at Cretin-Derham Hall, was part of the 2024 Class that included 11 inductees. During his high school days, Mauer excelled in football, basketball, and baseball, leading his teams to championship victories and earning national recognition as a standout athlete.

Mauer’s football career saw him throw for nearly 6,000 yards and 73 touchdowns, guiding his team to two state title games and a championship win in 1999. In basketball, Mauer scored over 1,000 points and averaged more than 20 points per game in his senior season. However, it was his legendary baseball performance that set him apart, with 43 home runs, 170 RBIs, and a remarkable .567 batting average in 222 career at-bats. Mauer’s senior season was particularly remarkable, batting .605 and homering in seven consecutive games while leading his team to a state title.

As the 2024 NFHS Hall of Fame inductee, Mauer joins a prestigious group of Minnesotan athletes such as Bronko Nagurski, Kevin McHale, and Terry Steinbach. Mauer’s achievements and humility have earned him respect and admiration, from his high school days to his professional baseball career with the Minnesota Twins. Mauer’s legacy as a versatile and accomplished athlete will continue to inspire future generations of high school athletes.
