Legal Marijuana Now loses major party status in Minnesota

The Legal Marijuana Now Party in Minnesota has lost its major political party status following a ruling by the Minnesota Supreme Court. The decision came after a suit filed by the Minnesota DFL party chair against the Legal Marijuana Now Party for failing to meet state requirements regarding committees and conventions. Despite never winning a major race, LMN candidates have impacted elections in the Second Congressional District. The party’s namesake platform issue, the legalization of recreational marijuana, is now settled law in Minnesota. LMN candidates can only appear on the 2024 ballot with the required number of petition signatures. The ruling leaves only the Republican Party and the Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party as the major political parties in Minnesota. This decision marks a return to having two official major political parties in the state.
